Orthodontic Offerings at Bella Smiles

At Bella Smiles, we go beyond basic dental care to offer orthodontic solutions that meet your needs. Our dentists in Long Island, led by Dr. Sal Lotardo, a member of the American Orthodontic Society, are here to help with both dental and orthodontic concerns for patients of all ages.

Spotting Issues Early

We provide both pediatric and adult dental care, so we know that changes in the mouth can happen at any age. Regular checkups every six months are a key part of spotting these changes, especially for children whose mouths are still growing. Habits like thumb-sucking or using a pacifier can affect a child’s jaw and teeth as they develop.

With regular visits, we can quickly notice any issues with bite or alignment and take action right away. Our goal is to keep treatments simple and effective, which is much easier when we catch problems early. For young patients, we’ll also discuss any concerns with their parents to ensure the best care path for the child’s dental health.

Invisalign for Teens and Adults

One of our top options for straightening teeth is Invisalign, a clear aligner system for teens and adults. Invisalign can correct mild to moderate alignment issues without traditional braces. These aligners are made from SmartTrack® plastic, which is thin, comfortable, and strong enough for everyday use.

We start by taking impressions of your mouth to create custom aligners that fit only your teeth. The aligners fit snugly, helping prevent any irritation to your gums or cheeks. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat and brush. Every two weeks, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners that gradually move your teeth into their ideal position.

Invisalign is popular for many reasons. It requires fewer trips to the dentist and often finishes treatment faster than traditional braces. Plus, the aligners are discreet, so they’re barely noticeable. Since you can remove them, you also don’t have to avoid any favorite foods during treatment.

Traditional Metal Braces

In some cases, Invisalign isn’t enough to correct severe bite or alignment issues. For more complex cases, traditional metal braces may still be the best choice. Metal braces use brackets attached to each tooth, connected by wires that gradually shift the teeth into alignment over time.

Metal braces are often a better fit for younger patients, as they can address even the toughest alignment issues and provide lasting results. During your visit, we’ll assess your specific needs and discuss whether metal braces or Invisalign would be the best treatment for you.
