Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign comes with many benefits over traditional metal braces. Patients who use Invisalign can look forward to these benefits:
- Improved self confidence. Achieving a straighter smile can help you feel more confident in your smile and improve your overall self-esteem.
- They can help improve your oral hygiene. Patients can remove their aligners to brush, floss, and rinse their teeth properly.
- No dietary restrictions. Patients can remove their aligners to eat their favorite foods.
- Clear aligners are a discreet way to straighten your teeth. The Invisalign lab will create the aligners using clear plastic, which makes your treatment as discreet as ever before.
- Our Invisalign dentist creates your aligners using advanced CAD/CAM technology, which ensures they fit comfortably in your mouth. You will receive your first set of aligners during your visit, but we will mail all future sets to you. That means fewer visits to the dentist office!
About the Invisalign Treatment Process
The Invisalign process is actually pretty simple. The process will begin with taking digital impressions and a scan of your teeth and jaw. We use CAD/CAM software to create a fully customized treatment plan.
Our software lets us show you how your smile will improve by the end of your treatment! The Invisalign lab uses these images to make your custom aligners. First, we’ll check if Invisalign is right for you with a dental exam and treatment plan.
Once our dentists approve your plan, it goes to the Invisalign lab. They use our measurements to create your custom Invisalign system and send us the first set for you to try.
When your aligners arrive, we’ll call you in and explain how to place them over your teeth and how often to wear them. You should wear them for 22 hours a day. This is also your chance to ask any questions.
Throughout treatment, you’ll switch to new aligners about every two weeks to gradually straighten your teeth. You’ll visit us regularly so we can track your progress and oral health.
You can take out the aligners to eat and maintain your usual oral hygiene routine. The length of treatment varies based on how many aligners you need and how crooked your teeth are. Severe cases might require traditional braces instead.
Invisalign FAQs
How does Invisalign treatment straighten teeth?
Invisalign treatment requires wearing clear aligners for 22 hours each day. Each set applies gentle pressure to shift your teeth gradually into the right position. Your dentist will create a detailed plan that maps out how your teeth will move from start to finish.
What is the best way to clean my aligners?
Most patients brush their Invisalign and rinse them with warm water. We recommend that you clean your aligners after eating or drinking. Be sure not to wash them with hot water as it can change the shape of the aligners and warp them.
Why Choose Invisalign Over Braces?
Invisalign has many benefits over braces. Both serve the same purpose; to straighten a crooked bite, but they function in different ways. Invisalign is clear and nearly invisible to the naked eye. While braces have easily visible bulky metal brackets and wires.
Invisalign is removable which is a major benefit. This allows our patients to be able to eat however they would like to. They can also better clean their teeth than those who have to work around the brackets and wires of braces.
Is it okay to not wear Invisalign for a day?
We strongly recommend you wear your Invisalign aligners 22 hours per day, every day. Follow all instructions to ensure that your teeth do not shift back into their crooked positions. We do not recommend missing one day of wearing your aligners. While it will not cause harm, it may make your treatment take longer to complete.
Can you drink coffee through a straw with Invisalign?
We recommend that Invisalign patients avoid drinking colored beverages while wearing their aligners. Dark drinks can stain them. If you do drink dark beverages, use a straw to help prevent staining. Remember to brush your teeth and rinse your aligners afterward, especially after drinking coffee or other staining drinks.
Will dental insurance cover the cost of Invisalign?
Whether dental insurance will cover the cost of Invisalign depends on your specific insurance plan. Some dental insurance plans may partially cover the cost of orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign. While others may not cover it at all.
Additionally, dental insurance plans often have waiting periods, deductibles, and maximum coverage limits. All these factors can further affect the insurance coverage for Invisalign.
