Having discolored teeth can make you want to hide your smile. We want you to be able to show it off! Luckily, there are many methods at each of our Bella Smiles locations to help you get a whiter smile. Our Riverhead, Nesconset, and Roslyn dentist discusses the options available at our locations.
Professional Teeth Whitening
When you think of getting your teeth whitened at the dentist, this is probably the method you think of. Professional teeth whitening has many benefits over the drugstore options available. Over the counter whitening treatment is one size fits all and can lead to blotchy and uneven results. You also risk developing sensitivity in the gums and soft tissue of the mouth if the bleaching agent comes into contact with it.
At Bella Smiles, we offer Zoom whitening solutions. Before your teeth whitening procedure, we’ll determine your cosmetic goals. This helps the dentist to decide the length of your whitening treatment, though usually, it’s a session that lasts around an hour. Dental cleaning may be performed before to give you the best results possible.
To start, we’ll protect your gums and soft tissue from the bleaching agent. The bleaching gel is spread out evenly on your smile. A special light is used to activate the gel to penetrate deep stains. The gel will be reapplied multiple times throughout the hour. When you’re done at our office, your teeth will be up to eight shades whiter.
Porcelain Veneers
Not all discoloration is able to be treated using traditional whitening methods. Porcelain veneers can help take on stains caused by things like genetics or certain medications. Veneers are made of thin shells of dental ceramic that go over the front and sides of your teeth. They’re designed to be durable and stain-resistant, for a solution that lasts years to come.
To get veneers, a small amount of your tooth structure is removed. This is to make sure the veneers lay flat and even with the rest of your teeth. Impressions are taken so that the veneers can be custom-made. When they’re done, we’ll fit them to your teeth and make sure they’re both comfortable and look the way you want. If you’re satisfied, they’re permanently bonded to your teeth.
Dental Bonding
If you want an economical solution that isn’t a permanent restoration, dental bonding is a solid alternative to porcelain veneers. The bonding material is made of a composite resin that’s color-matched to the shade of white you desire. It’s malleable and molded into the shape of a natural tooth, correcting small chips and cracks as well.
A minimal amount of your tooth structure is removed to make sure the bonding material adheres to your tooth. It’s molded to your tooth to look natural and blend in with your smile. Once you’re satisfied, a special light will be used to cure and harden the resin. It’s then polished to match the natural sheen of the rest of your smile.
